Vesting Cliff
The point before which no equity is earned at all
A period at the start of a vesting schedule during which nothing vests, followed by a block that vests all at once when the cliff is reached. A one-year cliff on four-year founder or employee vesting is the common pattern: leave before month twelve and you keep nothing, stay past it and a full year's worth vests immediately.
